Humans have known about static electricity since ancient times.
It was first observed by Thales Miletus a Greek philosopher who lived
in the 6th century BC. However, since then Benjamin Franklin claimed to
have discovered static electricity and carried out various experiments to test his ideas. He did a historic presentation about it. He did this by flying a kite in a storm and received a static shock.
